Most men have at least a few dress shirts tucked away in their closets, and they usually come in one of three styles:
Most men have a few dress shirts in their wardrobe for a variety of situations. These shirts are separated into 3 unique styles: Athletic Fit - Dress shirts that have an athletic fit have become increasingly popular over the years. Sometimes designated as "slim-fit", these shirts provide a narrowed, slightly assertive appearance. Many men like to sport an athletic fit when going out to clubs or bars, though others find the fit a comfortable, yet professional option for their smaller build. A man will receive a sophisticated and modern makeover with the introduction of this urban shirt style. Designers like Hugo Boss and Calvin Klein have long used this styling in their shirt designs. However, retailers like Banana Republic and Superdry have begun to offer the athletic fit as a staple of their lines as well. Modern Fit - As the name suggests modern fit shirts are a more current fashion style. They are great for formal events or at the office, and also ideal for clubbing and fine dining at restaurants. It is a tapered shirt in what is commonly known as the "semi-fitted" style, it looks especially good on men with average builds, who are not very skinny but the not overweight either. This style of shirt is rising quickly in popularity and lends a smooth, strong outline to the body. It is often preferred by young professionals. Classic Fit - This fit looks pretty much as it sounds. It is the most common type of dress shirt available and has been around the longest. Most classic fit shirts are not tapered, which provides generous room and utmost comfort for those that have a heavier build. Although, its popularity has been waning since the invasion of the modern fit into the fashion market. Until recently, the modern fit shirt could only be found at high end stores; with their introduction into the mass marketplace, more men are choosing this updated look. However, the classic cut will not be making a mass exodus from shelves anytime soon. Men who desire a more formal appearance, along with any guy that fits into the big and tall category, will still favor the classic cut dress shirt. If you are not sure what style would fit your build and look the best it may be wise to stick with the classic fit, however, next time you are out shopping for shirts, at least try on some of the other fits, as you may find that you like them better. |
