Forums are a tremendous resource available to you on the internet. Nearly as user friendly as a Google Search, forums allow you access to the collective intelligence of the planet. Imagine that you can now ask any question relating to any subject conceivable, and expect nearly immediate responses from people world wide!

Can you really get an instant answer to anything? Well, maybe not quite. There are some restrictions and challenges to your access to answers. But not enough to stop you! The value of Forums far outweighs the problems you may have to contend with.

First order of business, you have to find a forum that is interesting and/or valuable to you. For example, let's say you're into ice fishing. Do a Google search for "ice fishing forum." (If you don't know how to do a Google search, you need more help than I can give you. Sorry!) Google will direct you to a site at http://www.icefishingchat.com/ That was easy right? Now just find the link on the site for "Forum." Next click on the "FAQ." That would be "Frequently Asked Questions," of course. This whole section comes out to about 10 pages. You can read through the whole thing in maybe 15 minutes. This will be time well spent! (I like to print these things out and read them on the train.)

Fifteen minutes is all it takes to learn to be comfortable with Forums. In short order, you'll be on your way to learning everything you ever wanted to know about ice fishing! It's probably a good idea to start out using forums "passively." Pick the brains of fisherpersons around the world by searching forum posts, discussions, and threads.

I mentioned earlier that there are some drawbacks to forums. One is that those people posting on forums may or may not be experts. They may or may not have some other agenda than just sharing their expertise and acquired knowledge of ice fishing. You'll learn to assess the value of opinions and facts as you go along. Indeed, you probably understand this drawback inherent to the internet already!

By far the most common use of forums, is "passive" use. Especially at first, don't feel that you need to be an active participant. Everyone gets a turn at being a "newbie!" Most people using forums never post anything at all. Most never give an opinion, never share their insight, and never even ask a question. That's perfectly OK!

Another drawback to forums is of course related to the fact that most people are passive. You may post a question, and then wait days for someone to respond. It can be frustrating to know that someone out there in the world could answer your question, but just doesn't feel like it!

It's a fact of life that the majority of people are observers, not active participants in activities that might put them somewhat in the public eye... even on the internet. And whats wrong with that? As my Mom often reminded me, "It takes all kinds!"

If you prefer to remain a passive participant in forums, at least at first, more power to you! If you become more engaged as you become more comfortable in the format, that's great too.

Forums are a really valuable resource, powerful and convenient, even when used passively. Don't you wish you knew of some way you could master the passive acquisition of MONEY on the internet?
